The history of the BAUHAUS and the ART FACTORY run parallel. Both feature a coworking concept with focus on art, architecture, design, and craftsmanship set within a unique location. Art Factory members have studios in historic textile mill buildings that allow them to fulfill their vision of creating a new world. They have access to metal, machine and woodworking equipment in communal shops where they can work and collaborate with other professionals. Sign makers, sculptors, antique furniture refinishers, textile designers, ceramists and craftsmen from multiple design disciplines can learn from eachother in this coworking and symbiotic environment. Filmmakers and photographers use these shops as shooting locations as well as prop manufacturing areas. Our industrial machine shops are offten booked by Ink Master | SPIKE | Timberland and others... This is an extremely innovative and personally tailored program unifying the plethora of arts and businesses working simultaneously and supporting each other in many diffrent fields.
#Industrial Art History: The Bauhaus School of Design was established in Germany in 1919 to produce designers that addressed the comprehensive issues of functionality, materiality, and production of goods for every aspect of life. The design disciplines of architecture, furniture design, lighting, textile design, industrial design, graphic design and typography. The introductory curriculum forced all disciplines to study basic shapes, volumes and techniques, as well as primary color theory. Every area of study was equally time shared in the daily schedule, and so the members had the opportunity to discover their preferences and inclinations, allowing them to figure out in what area they could possibly want to specialize in. This introductory, multidisciplinary curriculum allowed for members to experience many subject matters before deciding on a career path. The products of Bauhaus teachings (many of them multi-disciplinary or collaborative in nature) became the foundation of Modernism or the #Industrial Style.
Art Factory members include fashion designers who are not only able to design garments but also produce them, print on fabrics, design textiles, build and design sets (runways), collaborate with photographers and navigate advertising campaigns - all within the walls of the Art Factory.
Our members keep the Bauhaus vision alive; cross-pollination between design disciplines where professionals are influenced and inspired by each other; photographers by designers; filmmakers by architects and so on in a stimulating coworking environment.
